Recently noticed when copying and pasting multi line selections within and between apps that on pasting I would get a single line of text. It doesn't always happen, say immediately after a reboot all is ok, but after running for many hours I will start to see the issue. For instance I rebooted sometime yesterday, could copy text normally quite late in the evening, left machine running overnight, then this morning I find the unwanted scrubbing happening just copying some text in Visual Studio.

I think this started after the 3.3 update but is still happening with 3.3.1. I don't have auto scrubbing enabled and don't have line break scrubbing checked.

Strange! We'll do some testing here to see what we can find out. I'll keep you posted as soon as we have more news!

I may have stumbled on the cause, but it's hard to be sure without more time to see. While working yesterday on a server I rdp into, and where I have Clipboard Fusion installed, I checked the settings and on the server copy, scrubbing including line break scrubbing was enabled. I installed ClipboardFusion on the server quite a long time ago, don't remember when but possibly a few years back. I've disabled auto scrubbing on the server and haven't seen the issue since, but it's only been a day so... maybe, maybe not.

It still remains true that I only started seeing this issue recently and didn't change the server settings until today, if you'd asked me last week I would have sworn I disable auto scrubbing wherever I use Clipboard Fusion but it's been installed there for so long I can't be sure what it's settings used to be. Anyway, is it possible that something in a recent update changed how it works if instances that are sharing have different settings? I would say the local settings should take precedent, but I'm also wondering if sometimes it kind of ping-pongs so I copy something locally and the server updates then somehow the server change comes back down to my local instance?

Ah, that would do it. I think the reason you've noticed this now, is because we changed the behaviour of the "Scrub line breaks" option. It used to just scrub them from the beginning/end of the text, and with 3.3.1 it now scrubs all line breaks. We've got a few complaints about that, so for the next version, we'll be implementing a second option "Scrub line breaks within text" that when disabled, will make it only scrub from the beginning/end :)

So is there no way to have the local settings take precedence? I'm not clear on what exactly happens in the sync process, but it seems that when the instance on my server received something from my local clipboard it applied it's own scrubbing settings, i.e. it treated the new text as though it was something copied locally on the server, is that correct? And then the scrubbed version replaced what I had copied locally. If so that seems wrong to me, it should leave synced text as is, and not apply any scrub settings. Or if that can't be done is there any way each instance can broadcast it's settings to other instances, there must be some kind of login handshake when an instance comes on line, say after a reboot? So you could then have a popup to warn the user that some logged in instances have different settings which may cause 'unexpected outcomes'? Although that sounds like a harder thing to do than just leaving synced text as is.

The problem is actually caused by the RDP app syncing the clipboard, so when you copied the text, the RDP session synced it to the remote machine, which scrubbed it, and then RDP saw that change and synced it back. You can disable that in the RDP settings though. Please see the attached screenshot :)

Damn it... just spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out what's causing this problem. I thought it's because brackets.io. Uninstalled all the themes, plugins... then I finally decided to do a restart.

IT worked fine for 10 seconds then bam, problem. Turn's out is clipboardfusion.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I don't use any kind of remote desktop or server or whatever.

Thanks

@Bogdan: You have text scrubbing disabled in the ClipboardFusion settings?
