When I have clipboardfusion running and showing in the system tray the format painter in Excel does not work. When I then exit clipboardfusion the format painter works fine again.
Excel does some wacky stuff with the clipboard that isn't always compatible with ClipboardFusion. On the ClipboardFusion Settings > Ignore Programs tab, can you try adding Excel? That should fix this up for you.
This response is not adequate, I'm in excel all day and need the multiple clipboard to store contents on copy so the exclusion rule does not work for me. However I can't manage without copy formatting either, after all the purpose of this app is to improve productivity. Can this problem be escalated because its only recently started?

Can you try putting "-Excel" in the "Window Text" match condition for the scrub text trigger? This should prevent the trigger from firing off items copied from Excel, and maintain formatting.
Just so you know as well, the formatting is only stored for the current copied text. The formatting won't be stored if the item is being copied from the Clipboard History.
Ive tried to follow these instructions but the format painter has stopped working. There are a lot of settings in here, can you post an image of the settings that allow you to copy text and have the format copy work in Excel. (that is the most commonly used productivity tool in the world and i'm surprised were having compatibility issues, excel has been #1` for 30+ years)
I've attached a screenshot below showing where you can find that trigger. I've also added the line where you can add excel as an exception, so it won't fire on excel windows.
If you don't want the trigger to fire at all (So all formatting is maintained when copied), you can disable the trigger entirely in the ClipboardFusion settings window.
